July 2013 – Graduate Teacher Programme closes

Following its launch in 2002, the new-look Graduate Teacher Programme finally closed on 31 July, 2013, to be replaced by the School Direct (salaried) programme.

The new programme will again be led by schools, but the two key differences are that schools will bid to the National College for Teaching & Learning for training places and nominate a delivery partner, and trainees will no longer be classed as supernumerary, meaning they may have class and timetable responsibilities.
